Windows Games that don't have a linux port will not work without wine on the steamOS unless you stream it from you main gaming PC. Andriod is a linux Kernal and its own fork.
It is not like Android linux it is more like Ubuntu that is rebuilt with differences. SteamOS is Linux with optimizations in certain areas to accomidate gaming performance under linux. Please don't comment on such things you don't know about and lead people wrong. This means that they will do all the work, and we just have to sit back and relax! New titles will be different the PS4 will be a unix based system on x86/64 so dev's will already be doing unix so porting is more direct. I think Valve will ask, maybe pay/help dev's move older titles to steamOS but it will be a title by title deal - popularity being one reason to move a game over. Wine hmm assuming wine works SteamOS won't be anything like the linux we know it may use some of the main kernel like Android but it may not be compatible. SteamOS WILL NOT play Windows games natively. You may be able to get some of your Windows games to play in SteamOS using wine, but if the developer doesn't port it to Linux your only other option is to stream it. i dont want to stream the games i want to play the game on the steam os on my computer and replace windows.
See i hurd that steam os dosent have all the background stuff running like windows.
